Hiring a professional caregiver as a travel companion

Home Attendant CareParticipating in social events is important to the emotional health and well-being of elders. While keeping seniors active and engaged with friends and family helps maintain important relationships sometimes it can become challenging for seniors to travel to family events across town, out of state or internationally.

At Home Attendant Care, we help Northwest Washington elders and their families preserve valuable connections between all generations. Our trained and fully-insured caregivers are available to provide transportation to and from events and take care of any personal care needs that arise along the way.

Escorted outings can be as long or short as needed, from an afternoon birthday party or BBQ to weekend vacations or even family or school reunions in another state…our team is prepared for whatever the needs may be.

Home Attendant Care caregivers have served as vacation companions so seniors are able to travel locally and internationally.  We have helped senior citizens fulfill “Bucket List” wishes and life-long dreams by traveling to places they never thought they would visit.

We’ve accompanied people to Mexico, Hawaii, Denmark, and many other places around the United States and the world! Our caregivers in Whatcom, Skagit, Island, San Juan and North Snohomish counties also take seniors on shopping trips, social visits and other fun outings around our region.

Hiring a travel companion can ease the stress of travel for seniors and their family members – travel companions/caregivers help with packing and planning, navigation of transportation hubs, dietary and personal care needs, and much more. Professional travel companions offer private, personal care while being respectful to the requests of clients – and they provide peace of mind for senior’s family members.

We take pride in what we do. Eldercare is an essential piece of society today, and we love helping seniors stay connected with those they love. Contact Home Attendant Care today to learn more about our travel companions and how hiring a professional caregiver helps people get out and about in Northwest Washington and beyond.

Upcoming events for Whatcom County seniors and caregivers

Whether it’s for a family member or for a client, caregiving is a demanding job, physically, mentally, and emotionally. We as caregivers should seek out and take advantage of community support and educational opportunities whenever possible.

That’s why it’s great when events like An Affair to Remember gala and the Passport to Care conference take place in Whatcom County. Each event provides a chance to have fun, connect with others with similar interests and concerns…and learn more about caregiving.

Alzheimer Society of Washington An Affair to RememberFirst up is the Affair to Remember gala, put on by Alzheimer Society of Washington (ASW) and partially sponsored by Home Attendant Care. It will be held on Saturday, March 1, 6:00 pm at the Lakeway Inn & Conference Center.

There will be a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, seated dinner, and music by The Atlantics. The cost to attend is $75 and proceeds support the mission of ASW, which helps local people who are impacted by memory loss illnesses. Affair to Remember is the perfect way to have a fun night out while supporting a great local nonprofit.

Elder Service Providers Passport to CareNext up is the 2014 Passport to Care conference is organized by Elder Service Providers and partially sponsored by Home Attendant Care. The event takes place on Friday, March 21 at Christ the King Church in Bellingham. This year, the keynote speaker is Anna Liotta, CEO of Resultance. She’ll be speaking about effectively communicating and developing relationships with people of all ages. The cost to attend is $25 and registration is required.

Lastly, remember to sign up for the workshop Debbie Gann will be teaching on February 19, 5:30pm at Skagit Valley Hospital. She will talk about a variety of services available to help seniors, whether they choose to live in their own home or move into a care facility. You can register for the class here.
